Introduction: Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is made up of a group of emerging food pathogens, impli-cated in numerous outbreaks worldwide. They are responsible for infections and serious gastrointestinal diseases such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and hemorrhagic colitis (HC). Many foods have been linked to these outbreaks, with emphasis on raw or undercooked meat and meat products. Aim: To evaluate the prevalence of STEC in meat and meat products from food-producing and game species, consumed within the Armed Forces (AF). Material and Methods: We analyzed a total of 170 samples received in the Service of Bromatology and Food Safety, of the Veterinary Military Center. To determine the presence of STEC, real-time PCR technique was performed using the "Custom TaqMan ISO STEC Screening Assay" kit (Thermo Scientific(TM), following the manufacturer’s instructions. Statistical analysis was carried out using the SPSS.program. Results: The prevalence of STEC in the to-tal amount of samples analyzed was 19.41%. Prevalence of meat products from food-producing species was 25.42%, whereas the one from game meat was 27.4%. The results obtained from the STEC screening showed statistical significance. Conclusions: The results obtained agree with most of previously published studies, emphasizing the importance of surveillance. Expanding the spectrum of matrices to analyze could be an interest approach, given the potential exposure of AF consumers to these agents (AU)

RESUMO

Radiative and hygienic passportization is one of the most actual pattern of socio and hygienic monitoring in Armed Forces. Radiative and hygienic passport is the main document which characterizes the safety control in military unit and uses the sources of ionizing radiation. Sanitary and epidemiologic institutions were imputed to control the formation of radiative and hygienic passports, analysis and generalization of its data, formation of conclusions about the condition of radiation security in the military units. According to radiative and hygienic passportization, which took place in 2009, the radiation security in the Armed Forces and organizations is satisfactory, but there are some problems of providing of radiation security of personnel under the professional and medical radiation. The salvation of its problems requires the effective work of official functionary of radiac object and institutions of state sanitary and epidemiological supervision in Armed Forces of Russian Federation.

The reason for the present paper is to introduce the naval health activities done, during the Endurance Freedom (EF) operative, considering the warship Patiño as a paradigm, being a result of its implication as a naval first and second sanitary step, analysing many of the common and specific activities and actions of the naval health service. From all of these, we must make critical reflexions about the possible improvements and realizations to develop along the next naval operatives in Middle East and african coasts, also establishing a practical reference to the health officers from the first and second step (AU)

Analysis of hygiene practice of to-day and how its forms and methods conform with the needs of military healthcare. The author makes a conclusion that due to certain objective conditions there was no substantial progress in the hygiene practice for the last decade. At the same time he points out that it is necessary to preserve and develop new traits in the hygiene methods that steer the growth of practical hygiene as a part of medical prophylactics.
